Dear Tiny,
Today President Obama told the world that he supports gay marriage. I feel sure that this will be one of those things you'll grow older and say to your friends "can you believe gay marriage wasn't allowed when we were born?!" Just in the same way that I can't believe they used to have two separate water fountains depending on your race back around the time my mom was born.
Anyways. It's a big deal. We have a number of gay friends, friends who are wonderful and loving and in great relationships. You'll grow up knowing them because they are wonderful people and we'll want them in your life. For this, I hope that you will grow up a very open-minded and accepting person.
The more people who stand up for equality, the better off we are. And we don't know a thing about you yet, not your gender, not the color of your hair, and not your sexual orientation... so it feels particularly good to go to sleep tonight knowing that the conversations about accepting people for who they are and providing equal rights to all of our citizens are moving in a positive direction.
We will love you, whoever and however you are.
